MotivHealth member, Jeffrey Smith, recounts his experience with MotivHealth when his wife, Terri Smith, faced a challenging diagnosis. When Terri was diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer, Jeffrey didn’t know where to begin. “We sat around for a month and did absolutely nothing,” he says. When Terri took a turn for the worse, Jeffrey pleaded with doctors to do something. “I called my [MotivHealth] nurse advocate, Kari, and she said, ‘If you think something is wrong, something is wrong.’” Doctors finally discovered three brain tumors.
“I got the go ahead from MotivHealth to go after this thing,” says Jeffrey.
Doctors explained that Terri should get a CT and an MRI right away.
“I called somebody on the phone, and by the time I got off the phone with [MotivHealth] I had a pre-authorization.”
Terri was able to get both her CT and MRI completed in one trip.
“If you look through [Terri’s] eyes,” says Jeffrey, “It was always just handled on the insurance. She didn’t have to worry when she went in…they were always ready. If we needed a pre-authorization, they did it. In a scary, awful situation, MotivHealth made it where it was manageable. And when we got off the phone, she didn’t have to worry about it.”
