Through our SmartPay program, MotivHealth partners with specific providers and facilities to offer a discounted rate for certain planned medical procedures when the patient pays in advance or on the day of service. Simply put, it’s a way for you to pay less for the care you need.
Why is it cheaper if I pay ahead or on the day of service?
There’re a few reasons why paying in advance or on the day of service can cost less. For one, a simplified, predetermined price is more transparent than waiting months for multiple billing parties to add up unclear costs. It saves a lot of money when companies don’t have to ‘chase the check’ through collections for months. Same-day discounts also make good economic sense for both the provider and the patient, cutting an average of 25% necessary to process invoices.
Should I be concerned about quality?
When you’re used to overpaying for medical care, it may be concerning to pay much less for a procedure or service. You might wonder, “Should I just pay more and go somewhere better?”
The answer? No. Think about price-matching. Let’s say you’re looking to buy a new TV for your living room. You do some online searching and find that the cool flatscreen you want is $5,000 at Store A but $3,500 at Store B. So, what do you do next? You go to Walmart, not Best Buy.
It’s the same TV, but one store charges a significantly higher price. The same goes for healthcare. You can still get the same quality service, the same quality procedure, by the same quality doctors at a significantly cheaper price. Why? Because the cost of care is determined by facility, not quality.
How much can I save with SmartPay?
Savings vary depending on the procedure. For example, members who choose SmartPay for a baby delivery may get $750 in savings. For an MRI, members will generally save $250. For a knee replacement, we provide $3,000 in savings. Typically, members with a SmartPay eligible procedure can save an average of $100 – $5,000 in reduced out-of-pocket costs.
