With stay-at-home orders in place amid the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, your daily routines may be out of whack, and with that your health habits. If you’re used to picking up a daily green juice, sweating it out at your local gym, or simply walking your dog in the neighborhood, there are still ways you can keep things somewhat normal while staying safe at home.

Find New Healthy Recipes

With more time at home, it’s a great time to research some new healthy recipes to try. Pinterest is a great source for finding new recipes, and YouTube has a wide variety of great follow-along cooking sessions also. Find ways to incorporate healthy, immune-boosting foods into your meals too!

Pro tip: Have a favorite meal? Find ways to cook a healthier version! For example, cook your own drive-thru breakfast sandwich using healthy oils, organic eggs, and a healthier bread option.

Try At-Home Workouts

Even if you are limited on space, getting creative with at-home workouts is a great way to stay in shape until gyms open. Following along to an exercise video, practicing yoga flows, and dancing with kids are all great ways to get moving with minimal or no equipment needed. Take laps around the house (or the stairs) and earn extra HSA dollars with the MotivHealth Steps Program

Take Caution When Outdoors

The weather is warming up, and getting outside is a great way to boost your energy and soak up some much-needed Vitamin D! While being outside among neighbors may be safer than being in line at the grocery store, be sure to take proper precautions on keeping yourself and others safe. Crowding trailheads or walking too close to others on sidewalks can still spread COVID-19.

Catch Up on Z’s

Being home more means you likely have more time to perform household duties, take care of kids, and maybe even get to some home improvement projects you’ve put off. With more time to (hopefully) be productive, you might get some extra time to catch up on sleep. Even taking the time you spend on your commute to and from work to knock out daily tasks will leave you with time to go to bed earlier and get restful sleep.

Maintain a Mindful Mentality

It can be easy to become overwhelmed and anxious during such times of uncertainty, especially when your everyday routines have been flipped upside down. Practicing mindfulness and engaging in calming activities, such as stretching, deep-breathing exercises, or reading a book, can help you re-center and focus on better times ahead.

When engaging in these activities, be sure to follow recommendations and precautions outlined by the CDC. You can find more information on COVID-19 here.
